Third Week of Teaching Practice

The third week of my teaching practice at RVVHSS marked a significant shift in my development as a prospective teacher. As I continued my journey in the classroom, I gradually became more comfortable with my responsibilities and confident in managing both the subject content and the students. This week was not only about delivering lessons, but also about building relationships, experimenting with classroom techniques, and reflecting deeply on my own teaching methods.

One of the most noticeable changes this week was the improvement in classroom management. By now, I had learned most of the students’ names and had developed a good rapport with them. This familiarity helped me in handling the classroom more effectively. I began implementing techniques I had read about in Jim Scrivener’s Classroom Management Techniques, such as giving clear, simple instructions and using body language and eye contact to maintain attention. I also made a conscious effort to use positive reinforcement, praising students who participated actively or completed their work on time. These strategies helped in creating a more positive and respectful classroom atmosphere.

In terms of lesson planning, I felt more confident and creative this week. I was able to anticipate students’ doubts better and prepared extra examples or visual aids to clarify concepts. For instance, when teaching English grammar topics like phrasal verbs and prepositions, I used real-life examples and short role-plays, which made the learning experience more engaging. I noticed that when students were involved actively in the learning process, their attention span and interest improved significantly.
